Few would deny that Naruto is one of the greatest anime series ever made, but even though the series has fans across the globe, not many know that one of the best quotes in the art form is hidden within the series.
Naruto doesn’t just have iconic fights: it has a range of amazing quotes given by a ton of different characters who each give a unique perspective on the world they live in. It’s an amazing series from start to finish, and out of every amazing quote given, there’s one that stands out from the rest.
Naruto Is Filled with Amazing Quotes, But…
Naruto is filled with amazing quotes, and the best part is that they don’t all come from Naruto. Most major shōnen series put too much emphasis on their protagonist and waste the amazing side characters that also make the series enjoyable.
Naruto is one of the wisest characters in his own franchise, even if he doesn’t know it. During the tensest moments, he says gripping, moving lines that not only define him as a character, but define the series at large.
Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of Naruto, knows how to use side characters. One of the most profound lines in the series comes from Shikamaru’s dad after Asuma is killed in battle. Shikaku tells his son to let his rage out, and reassures Shikamaru that he will pick up the pieces. While this is a solid contender for the best quote in Naruto, there’s another that takes the cake.
Kakashi’s Speech to Obito Is One of the Best in Anime
Kakashi and Obito’s relationship is tumultuous at best. They’ve been annoyed at one another, trusted each other with their lives, mortal enemies, and finally, friends. It’s a storied relationship to say the least, and in episode 372, “Something to Fill the Hole”, Kakashi delivers the best quote in the series that not only captures his feelings about life, but Naruto’s main philosophy at the same time.
“I’m just a piece of trash… but there are things I learned. The hole in your heart is something other people can fill. If you reject your friends’ feelings and this world… just because something didn’t go as you wished, no one will ever come to you. And so that hole won’t be filled either. If you just run away without doing anything, people won’t do anything for you either… As long as you don’t give up, you can still be saved!”
Kakashi is letting Obito know that while the two have gone down wildly different paths since they fought alongside one another, at their cores, they’re the same. The difference is that Kakashi accepted his friends’ hopes, allowing the “hole” in his heart to be filled with positivity and hope rather than hate and despair.
This quote perfectly encapsulates what Kishimoto wants Naruto to mean. At times, people lose faith in themselves, but instead of falling victim to negativity, one should rely on those around them to uplift them and reassure them. It’s quotes like these that cement Naruto’s status as one of the most emotionally moving shōnen series ever made.
