A survey released this Thursday revealed that 27% of Canadians now consider the United States as an “enemy” country at a time when bilateral relations are under minimum due to the threats of annexation of Donald Trump.

The survey, conducted from February 14 to 17 by the Leger firm with interviews with 1,500 Canadians and 1,000 Americans, also indicated that 30% continue to consider EU as an “ally” and another 27% describes it as “neutral” potential.

On the other hand, only 1% of the Americans surveyed described Canada as an “enemy” country and 56% considered it an “ally.”

In addition, 74% of Canadians expressed their aversion by US President Donald Trump.

Canada does not see Trump with good eyes

The publication of the survey occurs after months of aggressive statements by Trump in which he has attacked both Canadian sovereignty and the figure of his prime minister, Justin Trudeau.

The Republican leader has pointed out his interest in absorbing Canada and turning it into the 51 state of the US, even using “economic force.” At the same time, he has noted Trudeau by repeatedly calling him “governor” instead of prime minister.

Trump has also imposed 25% tariffs on Canadian imports, a measure that is suspended until March 4 and that Ottawa considers will cause serious economic damages on both sides of the border with the potential destruction of hundreds of thousands of jobs.
