The Government of Mexico reported that it seized 62 high-end motorcycles and drugs, linked to a former Canadian Olympic athlete, Ryan Wedding, wanted by the United States FBI and who is allegedly linked to the Sinaloa Cartel (CDS).
Through a joint statement, Security agencies indicated that agents carried out four searches at homes in the City and state of Mexico, related to a former Olympic athlete who is “one of the 10 most wanted fugitives by US authorities.”
They explained that as part of the bilateral cooperation to detain people required by authorities from other countries, lines of investigation were developed on the subject of foreign nationality related to transnational criminal activities.
This is how the agencies identified four properties in the Mexican capital and the neighboring state of Mexico and after gathering sufficient evidence, a control judge granted the order to intervene in the properties.
After that, the statement indicated, the homes were searched where doses of methamphetamine and marijuana, 62 high-end motorcycles, two vehicles, works of art, two Olympic medals, cartridges, a charger and various documentation were found.
The properties were sealed and under the protection of the authorities, while what was insured was placed at the disposal of the agent of the Public Ministry.
Agents from the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the Secretariats of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Navy (Semar), the National Defense (Defensa) and the National Guard (GN) participated in the operations.
Just last December 8, the United States embassy in Mexico reported that the FBI was looking for Canadian Ryan Wedding, a former Olympic athlete who operates from Mexico in alliance with the Sinaloa Cartel (CDS) and “leads a violent organization dedicated to cocaine trafficking.”
In a video broadcast on its social networks, the US embassy indicated that Wedding is “one of the FBI’s most wanted criminals.”
“There is a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to his capture. Your complaint can make a difference, if you have information about James, contact the United States embassy,” indicated the diplomatic representation headed by Ronald Johnson.
The US embassy noted in the message that it believes Wedding “is hiding in Mexico” and offers the aforementioned amount “for information that allows him to be arrested.”
On November 19, the United States Government announced that it was raising the reward from 10 to 15 million dollars for information leading to the capture of Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder accused of trafficking drugs from Mexico.
Likewise, the Donald Trump Administration imposed financial sanctions against the Canadian, along with nine people and nine related companies.
Wedding, who is on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, represented Canada at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States.
According to the State Department, after his sports career he dedicated himself to drug trafficking and his last known base of operations is Mexico.
