9-1-1’s Bobby Actor Officially Sets First Network Show After Controversial Character Death

After the highly controversial death of Captain Bobby Nash in 9-1-1 season 8, Peter Krause has found a new network show.

As one of the procedural’s original main characters, fans had been following Bobby since 9-1-1 debuted in 2018, and the general reaction was one of shock and devastation after his sacrifice. The final episodes of season 8 and now 9-1-1 season 9 have had to navigate the story for the first time without him, leading to a mixed reception.

Now, Krause has set his first network show since 9-1-1 by joining the ensemble cast of NBC’s Protection, a drama pilot created, written, and executive produced by Quantico and Gossip Girl‘s Josh Safran. This marks Krause’s return to NBC after previously starring in Parenthood, where he played Adam Braverman for all six seasons that aired from 2010-2015.

The former Parenthood and 9-1-1 star will play the series regular of Mike Thornhill. His family, made up of law enforcement agents, are targeted by a mysterious assassin after the death of a U.S. Marshal, and must use their skills to survive and apprehend the killer, all while being pushed to their limits. Since it is only at the pilot stage, the series has not yet received a full order, but if it moves forward, it will be a major return to network television for Krause after Bobby’s 9-1-1 death.

It has not been announced yet whether 9-1-1 will be renewed by ABC for season 10, with the show continuing to expand despite Bobby’s absence. Another series from the franchise is also on ABC, the spinoff 9-1-1: Nashville, whose season 2 fate also still needs to be decided. An earlier spinoff, 9-1-1: Lone Star, aired for five seasons from 2020-2025.

Along with his prominent roles in Parenthood and 9-1-1, Krause is known for playing Nate Fisher in HBO’s drama series Six Feet Under, for which he received three Emmy Award nominations and two Golden Globe nominations. He has also starred in ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money and The Catch. Having him play a leading role in Protection will likely bring more visibility to the new show given his long and successful history with network television.
