Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, episode 3.Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 continues to balance its past and present storylines with heartfelt moments and pitch-perfect connective tissue, with the end of its latest episode forever changing a key dynamic in the Monsterverse. In Monarch season 2, episode 2’s ending, Titan X came calling in the past timeline, with Lee and Keiko running for their lives and barely making it.

Lee went through a similar moment in the present, as Kurt Russell’s version of the character used one of the scarabs as bait to lure Titan X away from the Monarch ship. At one moment, it even seemed like Lee was a goner, but, as the Apple TV sci-fi series has come to show, Russell’s character can seemingly always make it. Now, another intense moment comes at episode 3’s ending.

Bill Randa’s Shocking Discovery Explained

The main event from season 2’s premiere was Titan X and Lee coming out of the Axis Mundi after Cate opened the portal, with the kaiju subsequently killing Natalie Verdugo. Then, episode 2 ended with Lee narrowly escaping death and succeeding in saving his friends from Titan X. Both of those endings were action-packed, with episode 3 now breaking that cycle.

Since season 1, it has been clear that the show’s main dynamic is the friendship between the trio that started Monarch: Bill Randa, Keiko Miura, and Lee Shaw. However, that connection was always on shaky ground, as despite Keiko being married to Bill, she developed feelings for Lee and the two even kissed in season 1. That connection was brought back in season 2.

In episode 3, Monarch sees Lee and Keiko go all the way, with the scientist later writing Lee a letter explaining that even though she loves him, they can’t be together. Years later, after both of his closest friends have disappeared in the Axis Mundi, Bill Randa goes to call the young Hiro when he stumbles upon Lee’s belongings and the letter Keiko wrote him.

The episode ends before we ever see Bill reading the contents of the letter, but his intrigued look and “Lee” being written in Keiko’s hand-writing are more than enough to know that Bill has finally found out about the duo’s affair. This completely rewrites what we know about the Monsterverse, as the reason Billy abandoned Hiroshi now gets reframed with his heartbreaking discovery.

Whether that is entirely accurate should be revealed in episode 4. As the Apple TV sci-fi series only shows Billy finding Kei’s letter in episode 3’s ending, there is a huge chance that the show’s next entry will put more of a focus on its contents and how Billy feels about the letter.

Billy is going to get hurt because Keiko and Lee could not get their feelings in check. In episode 2, they almost kissed during the festival to summon Titan X while remembering their season 1 smooch. Monarch‘s new episode pulls the characters even closer together, as Kei and Lee need to run from the locals and find shelter at an abandoned cabin.

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2 Review: Titan X’s Arrival Sees Past & Present Collide In Monsterverse-Defining Story

The Monsterverse gets an exciting new chapter as Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 builds upon the first season’s storylines in a heartfelt way.

There, they initially resist their obvious attraction to one another, claiming they thought they were past their kiss, before Kei tends to Lee’s wound, and they inevitably give in to their feelings. After they kiss and have sex, including Lee saying “I can’t leave you,” Kei writes the letter that Billy will later find.

With it, she fully spells out her love for Lee, but claims hers for Billy is bigger, seemingly making a final choice. Lee is devastated about it, drowning his sorrows with booze. At this point, it seems like Lee and Keiko’s relationship has reached its conclusion, though it does not prevent Billy getting hurt at all, as we see him finding the letter with Kei’s confession.

Apex Cybernetics is the main shadowy organization in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, as the title organization is now operating with Lee, Keiko, and others through Tim’s leadership, even though he is not the big boss. However, in episode 3, Cliff Curtis’ Jason from Apex shows up on the Monarch ship with new technology and assumes control of the operation.

This leads to the two teams butting heads over how to proceed, with the Apple TV sci-fi series eventually confirming Apex’s ulterior motive. They track Shaw and the others and steal the technology Hiroshi had created. Elsewhere, Tim is suspicious of what else Apex is hiding, asking May/Corah to be his mole at Apex. Through that, the company’s secret goal should be revealed.

What’s Next For Titan X Explained

Finally, Titan X is spotted in episode 3. Cate is back in San Francisco to see her mother and try to live a normal life after all she has had to endure. However, the trauma from Godzilla’s path of destruction on G-Day and the fact she might have just unleashed a similar event with the arrival of Titan X eats her up from inside the whole episode.

With Titan X headed towards Cate and Monarch revealing that to the whole world, Shaw and the others are running out of time. So far, Monarch season 2 has yet to explain why Titan X is set on its current path. However, by following a similar path to Godzilla’s on the fateful G-Day, it seems like a devastating event could be on the way in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2.
