Sleeping is a fundamental pillar for integral welfare and health. However, for millions of people, achieving a repairing dream is a constant struggle. In this context, the use of cannabis products to sleep is gaining popularity in the United States and could represent an emerging trend in Mexico.
According to a recent survey conducted by The Harris Poll in collaboration with Green Thumb Industries, approximately 16% of American adults over 21 years of age resort to cannabis as helping. This percentage exceeds those who opt for prescription tablets (12%) or alcohol (11%) and is only exceeded by supplements (26%) and free sale sleeping pens (19%).
The study also reveals how the consumption of cannabis to sleep is influenced by demographic factors. For example, men are more likely than women to use cannabis (18%compared to 15%), and lower income people are the ones who report greater use (23%). In addition, parents of children under 18 also show a greater tendency to consume these products (21%).
In Mexico, although access to medicinal cannabis has been regulated since 2017, the supply of products focused on sleep remains limited. The culture of the use of cannabis for therapeutic purposes faces social and regulatory barriers that They hinder their adoption. However, the growth of this industry in the United States could serve as a catalyst to change perceptions in the country.
The preference for cannabic products to sleep responds to a pressing need: almost eight out of ten American adults say something prevents them from sleeping. In Mexico, where insomnia affects approximately 40% of the population, according to the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), cannabis potential as a therapeutic alternative could be significant.
American companies have identified this market as a great opportunity. Products such as gummies and chocolate bars enriched with cannabinoids such as THC, CBD, CBN and CBG are specifically designed to improve sleep. In Mexico, the arrival of similar products could offer a less invasive and potentially safer option than traditional sleeping sleepings, although it should be noted that in the illegal market and online sales these products are already available.
An example that highlights the effectiveness of cannabis to sleep is the increase in its consumption among older adults in the United States, according to a study by the AARP group. This finding is particularly relevant to Mexico, where the elderly population represents an increasingly broad segment with specific health needs.
So that sleeping cannabis becomes popular in Mexico, it is necessary to overcome important challenges. On the one hand, legal and regulatory barriers are still significant. On the other, cannabis stigmatization limits its social acceptance. However, the growth of scientific research and education on the benefits of cannabinoids could pave the way for integration into the Mexican market.
The United States case shows that change is possible. As more people prioritize integral well -being, cannabis is ceasing to be seen exclusively as a recreational substance to become a therapeutic tool. This paradigm shift could inspire Mexico to seriously consider cannabis applications in improving the quality of life.
Finally, the use of sleeping cannabis products is a trend that is gaining ground in the United States and could have a significant impact on Mexico. With the appropriate approach to regulation, research and education, this alternative could become a key tool to address one of the most common health problems: insomnia.
