The Mundo Imperial group, owner in Acapulco of the Palacio Mundo Imperial, Piere Mundo Imperial, and the emblematic Princess hotel, intensified its recovery efforts after the damage it suffered in September with the passage of Hurricane John, and is preparing to receive vacationers into the upcoming Christmas season.

“Christmas is our best season,” Seyed Rezvani, General Director of Mundo Imperial, said in an interview.

Hurricane John, which hit Acapulco last September, caused several floods in the area surrounding the port, as well as the destruction of various properties.

“The facilities looked like islands,” Rezvani recalled.

Even with the passing of this phenomenon, the Mundo Imperial group had to delay the announced reopening of its Princess hotel, which had been scheduled for September.

“Because of Jhon, the opening of the Princess was delayed by 6 weeks,” Rezvani said.

Unlike other venues in Acapulco, the Mundo Imperial spaces have always enjoyed the benefit of being insured, and although they have been receiving blows from nature for 2 consecutive years, the rooms and facilities are once again arranged to receive tourists.

The Cano hotel in Acapulco was one of the spaces that, after the destruction of Otis, never reopened its doors. Likewise, the Holiday Inn Acapulco la Isla hotel, operated by IHG, continues its efforts to reopen almost 2 years after the tragedy.

“Climate change is a reality that is happening and is affecting the world. But they are changes that are coming and we have to be prepared in some way to face them,” said Rezvani.

In Acapulco, the Mundo Imperial group usually has more than 2,000 rooms, of which it currently has about 1,350 in operation. Although it does not stop for the Christmas season, when many Mexicans usually celebrate and vacation in the Acapulco port.

“We hope to have about 1,700 rooms for the Christmas season,” Rezvani said.

Likewise, by January, Mundo Imperial hopes to have its 2,000 rooms completely ready, and to be able to welcome tennis fans at the 2025 Mexican Tennis Open.
