15 years after Terraria began development in January 2011, the hit indie sandbox has finally shown off the details for its long-awaited next update. While Terraria branded the 2020 update Journey’s End as the final major patch, developer Re-Logic has continued to develop new features and quality-of-life fixes for the game in the years since.
A new official trailer on the Re-Logic YouTube channel debuts new footage for the 1.4.5 Bigger & Boulder update for Terraria, set to launch on January 27, 2026. The trailer shows off a quick succession of new clips, revealing features like character portraits, new boss themes, a Skyblock seed, and much more.
Terraria 1.4.5 Update Adds A Ton Of New Features
Rather than focusing on a themed expansion, the new Terraria update sprinkles additions into every aspect of the game. New weapons range from slime whips to freeze bombs, mechanical systems like housing have been upgraded, and graphical changes include additional backdrops and overhauled lighting.
An in-depth breakdown of content showcased in the new trailer can be found on the ChippyGaming YouTube channel.
Along with the broader updates, Bigger & Boulder also includes a variety of crossover elements from the indie roguelite Dead Cells. The trailer features additions like the Flint warhammer and the new Mushrom Boi summons. Likewise, a couple of Pals from Palworld appear in the footage.
Terraria Is A Gift That Keeps On Giving
Terraria was one of the first games to take Minecraft‘s survival crafting formula in a new direction, and it remains one of the most innovative titles in the genre today. With so many updates, the amount of content included is already staggering, and Bigger & Boulder is taking things to another level. This doesn’t seem like a dramatic overhaul to quite the same degree as Journey’s End, but there’s still a staggering amount of new material on the table.
In the past, Re-Logic has confirmed the addition of quite a few more weapons, fresh furniture sets, and transformations into additional creatures. Some of the new content will also provide lighthearted fun, like beachwear, a controllable RC car, and a decorative tube TV.
The trailer is the best overview of the new content to date, as most information about 1.4.5 has been drip-fed over the years. Hopefully, January 27 will bring an extensive list of patch notes alongside the update, making it easier to get a grasp of everything that’s changed. Either way, it’s great to finally see so many details of Terraria‘s next update ahead of its impending release.
