Although Al Pacino is best known for his impressive film career, he also has some TV projects in his filmography, most notably a two-part thriller that has become a perfect binge-watch. Al Pacino is one of the best actors of his generation, starring in some of the best movies of all time, most notably The Godfather and Scarface.

Before his big screen debut in 1969 with Me, Natalie, Pacino appeared in one episode of N.Y.P.D., marking the beginning of his TV career. Although Pacino has favored film over TV since then, he hasn’t forgotten about the latter. Most recently, Pacino starred in Prime Video’s drama thriller series Hunters, which deserved a much better fate.

What Is Hunters About?

In 2020, Prime Video released Hunters, created by David Weil. Hunters takes the audience back to 1977, in New York City, to follow a group of Nazi hunters. The team finds out that various surviving Nazi officers are planning to create a Fourth Reich in the US, while they also discover Operation Paperclip, through which the U.S. government relocated German scientists, many of them Nazis.

Although Hunters had a divisive beginning, with some praising its story, themes, and performances, and others criticizing its inconsistent tone and historical inaccuracies, the second season was a lot better received. Unfortunately, Hunters only stayed for two seasons, ending in 2023.

Al Pacino Is Great In Hunters

Al Pacino plays Meyer Offerman, a Polish-Jewish Holocaust survivor and the leader of the Hunters, as well as the one who recruits Jonah Heidelbaum (Logan Lerman) to take his grandmother’s place in the group. Hunters is Pacino’s first lead role in a TV show, and there’s a massive twist in his character’s story in the first season.

A complex character like Meyer Offerman required someone with the talent, range, and depth of an actor like Al Pacino, and, unsurprisingly, he excelled at it. Pacino brings his natural charisma to Offerman (a trait that’s key to the character), with enough darkness and mystery to keep the audience engaged and wondering what he will do next.

Pacino’s performance as Offerman also serves as the emotional anchor of Hunters, amid the show’s eccentric and comedic yet dark tone. While the story and style of Hunters might not be attractive to some, Pacino’s presence and excellent performance should be enough.

Why Hunters Ended With Season 2

As mentioned above, Hunters ended after just two seasons, and as surprising as its cancellation was, the show was given a proper ending. Because of that, and because no official explanation for its cancellation was given, it all points to Hunters being planned to be a two-season series, covering everything it needed in just 18 episodes.

While Hunters definitely deserved more, it tells a complete story and, ultimately, it was a wise decision to end it while it was still a great show. On the bright side, just two seasons make Hunters a perfect one-weekend binge-watch, and it’s one of Al Pacino’s best works to date.
