Amazon lost his battle against a record fine of 746 million euros (812.4 million dollars) imposed by the Luxembourg privacy regulator four years ago when a court was put on the side of the control agency, according to a statement on the regulator’s website.

The National Commission for Data Protection of Luxembourg (CNPD) said that the country’s administrative court dismissed Amazon’s appeal in a ruling on March 18.

The control agency had sanctioned Amazon for processing personal data violating the EU Privacy Standards, known as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Europe has adopted a firm position against these infractions, and its historical law has marked the pattern for other countries.

CNPD said his decision, which also included measures for Amazon to solve the problem, will remain suspended during the appeal period.

Amazon said he was considering appealing the judicial ruling.

He pointed out that the decision of the CNPD “imposed an unprecedented fine based on subjective interpretations of the law on which no interpretive orientation had been previously published.”
