Ambiguity and caution before Trump’s initiatives on Latin America

Donald Trump likes to set, it is his style. He has been doing it with tariffs and with their imposition or cancellation as a kind of prize and punishment.

The effects of this maelstrom are shown in economic losses, but especially in the establishment of a scheme in which everything can happen.

Perhaps even more delicate, for its implications, it is the directive to the Pentagon so that the United States Army acts against specific whites of drug trafficking.

As ambiguity is what prevails, the level of actions that could be unleashed, nor in which countries, since the instruction is against drug organizations that have a presence in Latin America is not clear.

According to the Government of Mexico, in the plans is not our country, because there are adequate cooperation and coordination guidelines and because, against the custom of the White House, President Claudia Sheinbaum was alerted, in advance, that working on projects of that nature was being worked on. In addition to this, in the National Palace they have been firm in respect for sovereignty as an inalienable condition.

But, before Trump’s very initiative, beyond whether it is viable and finds the legal coverage that is required, you have to take things with due caution.

It is unlikely that troops will be displayed, because this would find resistances and to start in Pentagon itself, where they do not usually congenize Trump’s eccentricities.

Another angle, which should not be lost sight of, is that the supporters of President Trump are reluctant to military adventures, since what they want is an enclosed country, a large America, but it is its own contour. They are right to walk around the house.

What is feasible is the accompaniment in specific captures, as has been done in the past by information exchange levels. As a general rule, the pressures are for the Mexican authorities to take care of the most arduous and risky work.

But situations similar to the kidnapping of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada enter the framework of the feasible. The dilemma, in any case, will consist of collaboration levels with Mexican security agencies. There will be the key to the matter.

After all, cartels such as those of Sinaloa and Jalisco Nueva Generación are considered terrorists by the authorities of the United States and that allows a much greater margin.

To this we should add the specific accusations on the implications of Nicolás Maduro, the Venezuelan president for which 50 million dollars are offered for those who collaborate in their capture, with the Sinaloenses.

Trump’s drums can only be a scenography, a staging, but also a warning, in that case more than ominous, because actions in Mexican territory, as in other countries to the south of ours, are not going to finish anything well and only exacerbate the moods and allow coverage to the criminals themselves that is, in principle, what should be avoided.
