Analysts consulted by Citi Mexico slightly improved their forecasts for the Mexican economy in 2024 and 2025.

The consensus of the 34 analysis groups revised upwards its estimate for 2024 from 1.5% to 1.6%, while for next year the expectation went from 1% to 1.2%, according to the financial group’s most recent biweekly survey.

The lender clarified in a statement that starting this Thursday Citi México will be in charge of the development, publication and distribution of the Expectations Survey of private sector analysts, after the official separation of Citi and Banamex was announced on Monday.

In addition, experts predict that the dollar will be more expensive at the end of this year, revising the forecast from 20 pesos to 20.23 per greenback.

For the end of 2025, the consensus estimate remained unchanged at 20.50 pesos per dollar.

The consensus expects that general inflation will be 4.38% at an annual rate in December, and not 4.45%, as it had anticipated in the previous biweekly exercise, while underlying inflation would be 3.59% and not 3.75%.

By the end of 2025, experts revised upward their expectation of general inflation, moving it from 3.80% to 3.83%.

While the forecast for core inflation remained at 3.70%.

All respondents estimated that Banxico will cut its reference interest rate by 25 basis points at its meeting on December 19, which would leave the instrument to control inflation at 10%.

By the end of 2025, the median expectations remained at a reference rate of 8%.
