President Donald Trump sustained firm this Tuesday on the veto he has imposed on Associated Press (AP), after the refusal that the news agency keeps citing as ‘Gulf of America’ the Gulf of Mexico.
“Associated Press has been very wrong in terms of elections, Trump, to Trump’s treatment and other things that have to do with Trump and Republicans and conservatives. They are not doing any favor, and I suppose I am not doing any favor. This is life, ”he said from his Mar-A-Lago (Florida) mansion during a press conference.
Trump stressed that this US agency is almost the only one that is not adjusting to new guidelines.
“He simply refuses to accept the law and what is happening. His name is Gulf of America. Now it is no longer called Gulf of Mexico. I have the right to do it, ”he stressed, adding that AP will remain vetoed“ until he agrees that he is the Gulf of America ”.
The White House formally blocked AP access to the Oval Office and the presidential aircraft Air Force One on February 14. “We are very proud of this country and we want it to be the Gulf of America,” the president added on Tuesday.
In his style guide, AP decided to continue calling the Gulf of Mexico “by its original name”, still mentioning the new name chosen by Trump, since it is a body of water that shares border with Mexico and Cuba.

Trump signed the executive order to change the name of ‘Gulf of America’ on January 20, the first day of his return to power. Subsequently he appointed on February 9 as ‘Gulf Day of America’.
“While my administration restores American pride for the history of the greatness of the US it is appropriate for our great nation to meet and commemorate this transcendental occasion and the name of the Gulf of America,” he said in a statement.
