Apple considers to raise iPhone prices in the midst of the commercial war between the US and China

Apple is considering raising the prices of its next autumn iPhone line, but prefers to avoid linking any increase with American tariffs to imports from China, where most of its devices are assembled, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on Monday.

The actions of the technological giant rose 7% in the session prior to the opening of the market, following the profits of the market in general after Washington and Beijing agreed to temporarily cut the reciprocal tariffs. However, Chinese imports will remain subject to a 30% tax in the US.

Apple is one of the most important companies affected by commercial tensions between the US and China, which intensified in recent months after a series of tariffs initiated by President Donald Trump.

The price increase could help Apple to cushion the increase in costs derived from tariffs that hindered global supply chains and forced the company to transfer most of its production to India.

Apple could justify greater prices with designs changes

Apple announced earlier this month that the tariffs were expected to add around 900 million dollars in costs during April-June quarter and that most of the iPhones sold in the EU during that period would be supplied with India.

Analysts have been speculating on a price increase by Apple for months, but warned that this measure could cost it market share, especially because rivals such as Samsung try to attract consumers with artificial intelligence functions that Apple took to implement.

The most economical model of the iPhone 16 was launched in the US with a sale price of $ 799, but could cost up to $ 1,142 due to tariffs, according to the projections of last month of Rosenblatt Securities, which indicate that the cost could increase 43%.

The WSJ report indicated that Apple planned to combine price increases with new functions and design changes, including an ultrafine design, which could justify the increases.
