Apple announced on Monday that it will open the essential technology used for Apple Intelligence and a renewal of its operating systems.
Apple software chief Craig Federight, said the company is opening the fundamental model of AI that uses for some of its own functions to external developers.
“This work required more time to achieve our high level of quality,” said Federight, Senior Vice President of Apple software engineering, about delays in some functions, such as the improvement of Siri.
Apple faces a series of unprecedented technical and regulatory challenges, at a time when some of its main executives opened the company’s annual software developers on Monday.
Apple’s shares, which remained stable before the conference, fell 1.5% after executives took the stage.
Federight also indicated that Apple plans a renewal of the design of all its operating systems.
The redesign of Apple’s operating systems focused on a design called “liquid crystal”, in which icons and menus are partially transparent. This step, according to Apple executives, was possible thanks to the most powerful personalized chips of Apple devices compared to a decade ago.
Federight said the new design will cover operating systems for iPhone, Mac and other Apple products. He also indicated that Apple operating systems will receive names of the year instead of sequential numbers for each version.
This will unify the nomenclature conventions that have become confusing because the main Apple operating systems for phones, watches and other devices were launched at different times, which resulted in a series of operating systems with different numbering for different products.
