Mexico City, (EFE) .- The Secretary of Citizen Security and Protection, Omar García Harfuch, reported that ‘El Lastra’, arrested over the weekend and recruiter of the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel (CJNG), said that in the ranch where an undetermined number of people in Teuchitlán disappeared, torture and murders occurred.
“According to the detainee’s testimony, people who resisted receiving the training or tried to escape from the place, as well as hitting them and subjecting them to some kind of torture,” said García Harfuch at the morning conference of the government on Monday.
According to the official, José Gregorio Lastra Hermida, ‘El Lastra’, was in charge of the CJNG training camp in Teuchitlán, Jalisco.
The operation against ‘El Lastra’ occurred on Saturday after authorities were monitoring through “fixed, mobile and discreet surveillances” in the state, where they managed to know that it would move to Mexico City, so a security device was implemented that resulted in its detention.
Harfuch, however, rejected that the place was a “extermination field” as reported by groups of seeking citizens, and pointed out that the information suggests that it was “a training center” of the drug trafficker organization.
“We as Secretariat of Security and the Research and Intelligence Areas of the Security Cabinet, there is no indication that (the property) has been an extermination field, as mentioned (the activists), but a training center,” he said.
Lee: Sheinbaum promises to give ‘all the information’ about the alleged extermination field in Jalisco
García Harfuch, who is heading the security cabinet of President Claudia Sheinbaum, said the Izaguirre ranch, where at the beginning of the month the group Guerreros Search engines denounced an alleged “recruitment or extermination field” of the CJNG with clothing and 400 pairs of shoes of missing persons, was used for training of members of the cartel.
“There are a number of things and we have confirmed that this and another point, which was also insured, were places to train subjects who wanted to enlist in the criminal organization,” he settled.
FGR has not confirmed human remains in place: Harfuch
However, Harfuch said that, until now, the Attorney General’s Office has not confirmed that human remains have been found in that place.
The discovery of the ranch has shuddered the country, which accumulates more than 120,000 missing people, according to the National Registry of missing and not located, with data since the 1960s.
President Sheinbaum has presented reforms to meet the crisis of disappearances in the country, among which are the strengthening of the National Search Commission, the creation of the “Unique Base of Forensic Information” and a new “Federal Platform for Human Identification”.
