EFE.- At least 38 people were injured -seis of them seriously- for an emergency landing of an airline of the US airline United Airlines in Lagos, a commercial capital of Nigeria, the federal authority of airport airports of the African country reported (Faan, in its acronym in English).
The apparatus, a Boeing 787-800, took off from Metala Muhammed International Airport of Lagos at 23:59 local time (22:58 GMT) on Thursday heading to Washington, the FAAN said in a statement issued late Friday.
However, the aircraft was forced to make an “emergency air return” to the Nigerian city and landed “safely” at 03:22 local time (02:22 GMT) on Friday.
On board were 245 adults and 11 crew members, the regulator said.
“Four passengers and two crew members suffered serious injuries, and another 27 passengers and five crew members suffered minor injuries,” he explained, adding that “the aircraft itself did not suffer important damage.”
United Airlines spokeswoman Leslie Scott told the CNN that six injured had been discharged in the hospital and that United Airlines argues that the reason for the return of the plane was not a serious turbulence, so he is “working with the aviation authorities of the United States and Nigeria to understand the cause ”.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) confirmed that it is investigating the incident, which occurred on the Ivory Coast Airspace.
“We are investigating the incident. We have received the recording of flight data to determine exactly what happened, ”said the director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the NCAA, Michael Achimugu, in a statement.
Videos captured by passengers and disseminated in social networks show the chaos generated aboard the Boeing 787-800 by the incident, with trays, food and other objects scattered throughout the hall of the plane.
