EFE.- At least six meteorological phenomena will cause heavy to intense rains this Saturday in 10 states of Mexico, with the risk of landslides, floods and the increase of rivers and streams, according to the National Meteorological Service (SMN).
The highest intensity rainfall, between 75 and 150 millimeters (mm), will affect Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche and Quintana Roo, while very heavy rains will occur in Oaxaca, Veracruz and Yucatán, between 50 and 75 mm.
In addition, heavy occasional rains are expected in Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí and Puebla, as well as intervals of showers in states in the north and center of the country, such as Nuevo León, Michoacán, Guerrero, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Morelos and the State of Mexico, and rains isolated in Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Guanajuato, Tlaxcala and Mexico City.
The phenomena that will cause these rains include low pressure channels in the southeast and east of the country, a trough at high levels and a system of atmospheric instability.
Likewise, a stationary frontal system in the north, the entry of moisture from the Pacific Ocean, a subtropical jet stream and anticyclonic circulation at mid-levels of the atmosphere.
These phenomena interact by increasing humidity and generating conditions for thunderstorms and hail.
“Heavy to intense rains could cause flooding, flooding and landslides, as well as increase the levels of rivers and streams,” the SMN warned.
In addition to the rain, the Mexican Meteorological Service predicted winds from the north with gusts of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour (km/h) in the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, with high waves of up to three meters, especially affecting Oaxaca and Chiapas.
In Tabasco and Veracruz, winds of up to 60 km/h were anticipated, similar intensity in Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo, with possible dust devils in regions of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí , Zacatecas, Durango, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Guanajuato, Querétaro and Puebla.
For its part, minimum temperatures in the country will reach between -5 and 0 degrees Celsius in the mountains of Baja California, Chihuahua, Durango and Sonora, with morning frosts.
Likewise, Aguascalientes, Mexico City, Guanajuato and other central states will register temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees.
In contrast, maximum temperatures will be around 40 to 45 degrees in Baja California Sur, Sinaloa and Sonora, and between 40 and 30 degrees in entities in the northeast and southeast of the country, such as Baja California, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Durango, Zacatecas, Guerrero, among others.
