At least one person has been dead and dozens have been injured after an explosion in a plant of the Us Steel Acerera in the city of Closing (Pennsylvania).

As indicated in a statement, the Allegheny County Police Department, there are two missing people after the incident and others are being treated for injuries, but their severity is unknown.

For his part, the governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, wrote in his X profile that “multiple explosions” occurred in this US Steel plant.

“Wounded employees have been transferred to hospitals to receive attention, and the search and rescue work continues,” Shapiro said.

County emergency services indicated that a fire was reported at the plant around 10:51 in the morning (14:51 GMT time).

The county transferred 15 ambulances to the area, and according to Abigail Gardner, Allegheny County spokesman, there are people trapped under the rubble and rescue teams are working in place.

In videos disseminated by the American press, you can see the US Steel plant reduced to debris after the explosion, of which the causes are still unknown.

For its part, the County Health Department reported on its Facebook profile that it is “actively” the explosion and recommended to residents that they are close to the area to remain inside.
