The traditional ‘Allstate Sugar Bowl’ of college football, which was to take place this Wednesday at the ‘Caesars Superdome’ in New Orleans (Louisiana) has been postponed to this Thursday after the attack that left at least 10 people dead.
“The 2025 College Football Playoff quarterfinals at the ‘Allstate Sugar Bowl’ have been postponed until tomorrow. We will communicate more details as they become available,” the party organizing committee reported through its networks.
Something confirmed at a press conference by the executive director of the ‘Allstate Sugar Bowl’, Jeff Hundley.
“Right now that’s the plan,” Hundley said.
The attack that caused the postponement of the game occurred early this Wednesday on Bourbon Street, a popular French neighborhood, where dozens of people were celebrating the new year and preparing to enjoy the college football quarterfinal game.
Information from the local police confirmed that the attacker was killed by law enforcement officers after he got out of the vehicle and fired several shots. “He was determined to cause the massacre and the damage it caused. It was intentional behavior. “This man was trying to run over as many people as possible,” Police Commissioner Anne Kirkpatrick reported.
Among those affected is also a student from the University of Georgia, whose team would play in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.
“We have learned that a University of Georgia student has been critically injured in the attack and is receiving medical attention. “I spoke with the student’s family and shared my concern, support and good wishes from the entire University of Georgia community,” said Jere Morehead, president of the institution, in a statement.
The ‘Sugar Bowl’ has been held since 1935. In this edition the Georgia Bulldogs, the second best team in college football, would face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the number three seed.
