The authorities reported on Thursday that until now Hurricane Erick, the first of the 2025 season in the Pacific and touched Earth this morning in Oaxaca as category three, has not left human damage, although they asked the population to maintain precautions.
“Very important to mention, president, who, as an updated fact, so far without human damage,” said the National Civil Protection Coordinator Laura Velázquez, during the press conference of President Claudia Sheinbaum.
In her report, the official said that only in Oaxaca, at least 14 municipalities have been affected with rain and winds, in addition to a hospital in the Huatulco spa where the water entered, the growth of a river in Ixtepec City, nine road landslides, stranded vehicles, trees and fallen posts.
Velázquez explained that 21,508 units of the Ministry of National Defense (Defense) have been deployed, of which 9,632 are in Oaxaca and 11,876 in Guerrero, while the Navy has sent 9,071 units, of which 6,418 went to Oaxaca and 2,653, to Guerrero.
The Secretary of the Navy, Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, said that the hurricane progresses on the Pacific as hurricane category one1, although it will still have effects in municipalities of Oaxaca and Guerrero and will dissipate as tropical depression in the Sierra de Michoacán.

However, he asked not to entrust “coastal populations, populations within the state of Oaxaca and the Sierra de Guerrero and Michoacán must be careful because probable floods or land detachment of the hills come.”
He explained that at approximately 12:00 local time (18:00 GMT), Erick will be 50 kilometers from Punta Maldonado Oaxaca and midnight this Thursday (06:00 GMT on Friday) will be about 100 kilometers from Acapulco, causing rains of up to 500 millimeters.

Finally, Sheinbaum thanked the population for responding “very well” to all calls from the authorities to protect themselves in their homes and asked to stay attentive to the information in the next few hours.
