More than 26,000 people have been arrested in Mexico for high -impact crimes since October 1, when the administration of Claudia Sheinbaum began, as reported on Tuesday the Secretary of Citizen Security and Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuch.
According to the official, until June 27, 204.5 tons of illicit drugs had also been confiscated, including 1.5 tons of fentanyl and more than 3.5 million pills of that narcotic.
Likewise, the authorities have seized 14,042 firearms and have dismantled 1,193 laboratories and clandestine areas for the elaboration of methamphetamines.
García Harfuch highlighted some arrests that occurred in the last two weeks, including Eduardo Maclovio ‘N’, alias ‘Double M’ and/or ‘El M’, who would be linked to the criminal group known as the Michoacan family and is accused of generating violence in the northern part of Guerrero.

The secretary also highlighted the arrest in Chihuahua, in different operations, by Salvador Humberto ‘N’, aka ‘Mr. de la V’ or ‘Verín’, and two other people allegedly members of the criminal groups new people, the Chapitos and the Pacific Cartel, and of two other alleged members of the new poster of Juarez.
In addition to this, García Harfuch highlighted the seizures – among July 9 and 17 – of eight million liters of illegal hydrocarbons, the arrest of twenty -three people related to that crime and the assurance of 559 kilos of cocaine in several actions within the country.
In addition, the head of the Secretary of Security said that, thanks to the strategy against extortion, implemented on July 7, 37 people have been arrested in Guerrero, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Puebla, the State of Mexico and Tabasco.
Sheinbaum assumed the presidency on October 1, 2024, after the record of more than 196,000 murders in the six-year term of the president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024).
