The director of the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA) said this Tuesday that we must wait for the formal actions that are announced in January in the United States on tariffs to be able to react, but added that as a country we must be prepared for any scenario.
President-elect Donald Trump, who will be inaugurated on January 20, said Monday that a 25% tariff would be imposed on Canadian and Mexican imports until those countries take drastic action on drugs, particularly fentanyl, and migrants crossing the border, a measure that would appear to violate the North American Free Trade Agreement (USMCA).
“It is important to wait to see what actions or formal decrees he announces in January (when) he officially enters the presidency, to know in detail what he will do and how to react,” said Odracir Barquera. “But as a country, we must prepare for all possible scenarios,” he added.

Trump said this Monday that he will impose a 25% tariff on all products from Mexico and Canada, and an additional 10% barrier on Chinese products on January 20, when he again assumes the presidency in the United States.
“On January 20, as one of my first executive orders, I will sign all the necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% tariff on ALL products entering the United States and its ridiculous open borders,” he wrote on his network social Truth Social.
“This tariff will remain in place until drugs, particularly fentanyl, and all illegal immigrants stop this invasion of our country!”
