American filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele died from “multiple injuries from sharp objects,” the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s report concluded this Wednesday.
An autopsy determined that the cause of death of the couple, who were found dead in their home in the wealthy Brentwood neighborhood, was “homicide,” suggesting that their deaths were caused by a third person.
The couple died last Sunday, the same day the bodies were discovered after one of their daughters called the authorities, according to the records, which concluded that the bodies of Rob and Michele are ready to be delivered to their relatives.
The middle son of the family, Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested hours after learning of the death of his parents as the main accused of the murder of his parents and this Wednesday he made his first appearance before a judge in Los Angeles.
He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder that could result in a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty, the Los Angeles Prosecutor’s Office reported.

At the moment the motives that could have led him to commit the alleged crime are unknown, although relatives say that there was a family argument at a Christmas party on Saturday night at the home of comedian Conan O’Brien.
Director and actor Rob Reiner, 78, known for his work in films such as ‘When Harry Met Sally’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, was found stabbed to death on Sunday afternoon at his home in Los Angeles along with his wife, producer and photographer Michele Reiner, 70.
The couple was found by their daughter, who arrived at the house after a masseuse called her to let her know that her parents were not answering the door, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Nick Reiner checked into a Santa Monica hotel on Sunday after the murders, according to a police source who spoke on condition of anonymity reported by US media.
