The robbery and assault is no longer a concern for buses, since the greatest crime that currently affects them is the stoning to the units, revealed Luis Antonio Zaldívar Sánchez, president of the National Chamber of the Passage and Tourism Autotransporte (Canapat).

“Today traveling by bus in our country through companies affiliated with the camera is totally safe and has no problem, we no longer have high impact crimes in passage transport,” said the business representative at a press conference.

For his part, Elima Luviano Heredia, executive director of the Canopat, said there are a number of initiatives and actions to stop the robbery and other crimes on roads.

“Bus companies work in the Balam program, which serves with the issue of alertment in the case of any incident or crime, today we are not victims of this type of crime, because a large number of members of the affiliates are equipped with the Balam application and have the beacon,” said the manager.

However, there are another series of initiatives the immediate line of attention against road assaults, but the stunched has increased and it is already a problem for companies, Elviano Heredia recalled.

The manager added that the operations announced by President Claudia Sheinbaum, the National Guard, the Secretariat of Defense (Sedena) and the Secretariat of Citizen Security to try to bring to zero the theft of cargo transport, because “it does have an impact that strengthens the companies of the tourism passage.”

He stressed that the stoning affects and damages the windshields of the bus, so “we would be talking about amounts that go between 35 thousand pesos to 75 thousand pesos.”

Although the expenses to repair the damage to the stoning are greater “depending on the degree of affectation, since the stuning damages some of the side windows and others.”

He added that they are worried about the safety and integrity of passengers, when a stoning on the roads is given.

On the other hand, Zaldívar Sánchez, president of the Canopat, said that autotransport companies lived a slowdown at the beginning of the year, but as of June 2025 a recovery has been seen in the number of trips in Mexico.

“We are seeing summer in a very optimistic way, so we believe there will be an increase in the number of services here at the end of the year,” he said.

The decrease in passengers was between 5 percent and 6 percent, derived from the uncertainty of investments in Mexico, said the business leader.

“The uncertainty in investments in Mexico slows down the passengers that we transport in the industry, but it is already recovering and already rebounded, the weather conditions have not helped us in recent years, since they are increasingly intensified and tourism” is inhibited a little about these issues, “he said.

The manager added that from June to date the passage and tourist transport service has been recovered and rebounded, so he does not see “a negative impact on the commercial relations of Mexico and the United States.”
