The National Electoral Institute (INE) has received 140 notifications to suspend the election in the Judiciary, scheduled for June 1, 2025, the president of the institution, Guadalupe Taddei, reported this Thursday.

He added that the INE is awaiting judicial resolutions regarding next year’s extraordinary electoral process.

“Up to this moment we have received 140 notifications, all of them were attended to in a timely manner, with a response; When the courts were closed by decision of the Judiciary (due to a work stoppage by judicial workers that is still ongoing) we struggled to deliver the answers but we found the appropriate ways to do so,” Taddei said at a conference.

He explained that the electoral process is not formally suspended, but they are awaiting the resolution of the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF).

On Tuesday, the Senate approved the publication of the call to integrate the lists of candidates for judges, magistrates and ministers of the Supreme Court.

“The INE has been very prudent and is not going to change its attitude, I think we have two situations, one that the Constitution itself mandates and we have to be consistent with the constitutional mandate and the other is the protection notifications issued by judges” Taddei said.

“Both are owed respect, that is why the INE found the correct way, which is the electoral trial to present it to the highest electoral authority, which is TEPJF,” he added.

He also pointed out that if the judicial election “is definitively suspended, it will have to be complied with, but at this moment we are waiting for the resolutions to arrive and have the corresponding effects.”

“If the times are shortened, of course it places in a situation of extreme actions that the INE would have to take,” he indicated.

In the approval of the call, it was established that the General Council of the INE may issue the agreements it deems necessary for the organization, development, reception of the vote, counting, surveillance and supervision of the Extraordinary Electoral Process of the Judicial Branch of the Federation 2024-2025.

In addition to the requirements that applicants must present, it specifies that the judging persons who are currently in office will be incorporated into the lists of candidates that the Senate sends to the INE, to the same position they hold, except when they express the decline of their candidacy.

On Monday, the Chamber of Deputies generally approved the opinion to the minutes that reforms and adds various provisions of the General Law of the System of Means of Challenge in Electoral Matters, related to the update of the means of challenge in the election process of the members of the Judiciary.
