Mexico will be the enclosure of the 11th edition of ‘Awakers’, the largest ballet in the world led by the Mexican Isaac Hernández, recognized as one of the best dancers internationally by the supreme award Benois of the Danse.
On this presentation, which will take place on August 30 at the National Auditorium of Mexico City, Hernández said at a press conference that about 30 national and international artists will participate.
Also, he said, he seeks to convince young people that ballet is a tool of “social mobility” and a “dream” that is worth fighting.
“I continue to find stories of young people who end up opting to do things they don’t like and that is a great challenge to fulfill, convincing young people to fight for their dreams, for what they are passionate. That is an engine that can make your life take another course,” said the 35 -year -old artist.
Eleven years of history
Along the same lines, Emilia Hernández, sister of the dancer and part of this project for 11 years, shared that ‘Awakes’ was born to “inspire younger Mexicans to believe in the impossible.”

In addition, he explained that this show, supported by Citibanamex, was “non -existent in the country”, and still came to “doubt much of his permanence in Mexico, because he was financially and humanly impossible to continue it.”
That is why “these last two editions have been especially unique and we want it to serve as an example and inspiration for the generations that remain behind us because we are not eternal,” he added after remembering that the Hernández family has had an extension trajectory in Mexican dance.
The invitation was also attended by the general director of Banamex, Manuel Romo, who stressed that Isaac Hernández “is a Mexican who is all proud of being an example of tenacity, talent, creativity and poise.”
Within the framework of the meeting for ‘Awakers’, it was recalled that Isaac Hernández has represented Mexico in many first positions, for example, being the first floor dancer at the American Ballet Theater or the first Mexican to get the Benois Award of La Danse.
Program details
“This is an event that is part of the life and cultural history of our country (…) and this edition excites me a lot because I bring a spectacular cast,” Hernández said.
As for the program, the artist listed some talents from within the program such as Spanish Chey Jurado or world -class stars: Tiler Peck, Roman Mejia, Francesco Frola, Francesco Tristano or his own brother, Esteban Hernández.
He also recalled that there will be representation of members of the Ballet of the Opera of Paris, of the English National Ballet, American National Theater, San Francisco Ballet, among others.
Also, Hernández revealed that he will have two alone in the ‘Awakers’ program, one of them will be the only one of the ‘Carmen’ ballet of the choreographer Roland Petit, emblematic of the Latvian Mikhail Baryshnikov.
As a national reverence, he said that he will bring to this edition a piece of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera with music from ‘La Llorona’, which was previously presented in Jalisco, west of the country, and the native state of the famous dancer.
