Washington, (Reuters) .- The announcement of Joe Biden’s cancer revived on Monday the questions about the scope of health problems during his mandate, and vice president JD Vance said that the ex-president should have been more transparent with the public.
“Why did the American people have a clearer idea of their state of health? Why did the American people have no more precise information about the problems they faced? It is something serious,” Vance told journalists at the end of a trip to Rome, and wished Biden “the best recovery.”
Vance’s statements reflected the renewed interest in the health of the 82 -year -old Democratic president with the publication of a book that details the generalized concerns about Biden’s mental acuity between collaborators and people from within the Democratic Party while soughting re -election in 2024.
Book extracts have raised new questions about whether critical information about Biden’s ability to serve in the White House was hidden.
The closest collaborators of the ex -president have ruled out those concerns, saying that he was fully capable of making important decisions.

A Biden spokesman did not respond immediately to a reuters request to comment.
Biden has appeared on television to refute accusations that his mental capacity had decreased during his 2021-2025 mandate. “There is nothing to hold that,” he said in the “The View” program of the ABC chain on May 8.
Biden, the oldest person who has occupied the presidency, was forced to leave his candidacy for re -election in July after a hesitant action in the debate against Donald Trump eroded his support among the Democrats. Vice President Kamala Harris presented her own candidacy, but lost in the November 2024 elections.
Biden’s office said they had diagnosed on Friday a prostate cancer that has spread to the bones. Doctors told Reuters that these types of cancers usually diagnose before they reach such an advanced phase.
“I would assume that the former president undergoes a very complete physical exam every year,” said Dr. Chris George, medical director of the Northwestern Health Network cancer program. “It costs me a bit to believe that a (blood test) has been done in the last year that was normal.”
Dr. Herbert Lepor, Urologist by Nyu Langone Health, said that given the detection options available, “it is a bit unusual in the modern era detect cancers at this late stage.”
About 70% of prostate cancer cases are diagnosed before other organs are extended, according to disease control and prevention centers.
The book “Original Sin” of journalists Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson put the focus on Biden’s mental sharpness in their last months in office.
“It was a mistake of the Democrats not to listen to voters before,” Senator Chris Murphy, a possible presidency democratic candidate in 2028, said Sunday at the NBC.
Biden did not face any serious challenge for the 2024 Democratic nomination, and the party’s leaders repeatedly defended their ability to serve a second four -year mandate despite the fact that 74% of Americans in January 2024 thought it was too old for work, according to a reuters/Ipsos survey.
