President Joe Biden’s vision is not to build walls or divide, but to consider Mexico as a partner and equal, said US Ambassador Ken Salazar.

“There is another vision and you know it and it is the vision of dividing, of building walls, of seeing people inferior to other people. That is not our vision, our vision is partners, equals and a family,” he said at the unveiling of a plaque at the new United States embassy in Mexico.

He recalled that many times they see a relationship between Mexico and the United States in crisis because they see “a broken border, disorderly migration for decades and decades, deep insecurity in many states of Mexico, which also affects the United States.”

The role and vision is to work hand in hand as partners and have a united and strong North America to compete, he added.

“Migration as partners is not a problem for the United States, Mexico and Guatemala, but a reality for all of us,” he highlighted.

“Today we must address the causes of migration and ensure that legal channels for those who have to migrate and modern borders are provided under the framework of being partners,” he commented.

President Joe Biden arrived at the White House with a very clear purpose, which was that together the world could do great things, he indicated.

“The transformation between Mexico and the United States of the relationship to be partners in the economy and support progress in the USMCA, the most modern international agreement of humanity,” he said.

“Work as partners to ensure that security, which is fundamental for the people’s democracy, can be obtained in Mexico and the United States,” he added.

The diplomat pointed out that the United States works with Mexico every day to defeat fentanyl and the generators of violence in Mexican and American cities.

Weapons manufactured in the United States kill many in Mexico, as happens in American metropolises, he said.

Investment of 1,000 million dollars in embassy stands out

The United States government has invested more than 2 billion dollars in the construction of the new embassy in Mexico City and the consulates in Hermosillo, Guadalajara, Mérida and Nogales.

“Our bet is not in other places in the world, but here in North America and in the capital of Mexico,” said the ambassador.

He added that an investment of one billion dollars was made in the building, which will be the most important United States embassy in the world.

He said that Mexico and the United States are the largest trading partners in the world and in all of history: “In 2021 that was not a reality, since it was China (the largest trading partner of the United States).”

The new United States embassy in Mexico City will use renewable energy for its operations, a new construction method worldwide, he explained.

“When we talk about the relationship between the United States and Mexico, we also include Canada, because we are a united region,” he pointed out.

With Canada, the United States and Mexico are the greatest power in the world for democracy and the economy, he concluded.
