The Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, currently in house prison, planned to ask for the government of Javier Milei, according to a Federal Police report from Brazil released on Wednesday.
The Brazilian police found, in one of Bolsonaro’s cell phones confiscated within the process for a coup attempt, a document without date on which the ultra -rightist leader requested asylum when declaring himself a victim of a “persecution” for “political reasons.”
According to the authorities, the elements found indicate that Bolsonaro “had in his possession a document that would allow his evasion from Brazil to the Argentine Republic, especially after the start of the investigation” of the case by attempted coup.
In the text, the former Brazilian president alleges that in his country it is “persecuted for reasons and essentially political crimes” and that he has been subject to precautionary measures since then.

Last month, the Supreme Court imposed on the former Head of State (2019-2022) a series of precautionary measures, such as the use of electronic ankle to the risk of escape and the prohibition of using social networks, and subsequently decreed his house prison when appreciating the breach of these.
The agents also suspect that the author of the archive with the asylum order, editable and without a signature, would be the wife of Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, one of the children of the former governor.
The finding of the draft is collected in the conclusions of the investigation against Bolsonaro and another of his children, Eduardo Bolsonaro, for “coercing” the Supreme Court within the framework of the coup dictation that the ex -president faces, with the collaboration of the United States government.
The police argue that both are suspected of trying to torpedo the cause for coup, which could be framed in the “crimes of coercion” and “attempt to abolition of the democratic state of law by restricting the exercise of constitutional powers,” he said in a note.
According to Brazilian authorities, Bolsonaro and his son Eduardo, who has been in the United States for about six months, sought to “induce, instigate and help” the Donald Trump government “to the practice of hostile acts against Brazil” with the aim of “archiving” the cause for coup.
Bolsonaro faces in the Supreme a criminal trial under the accusation of “leading” a coup conspiracy to remain in power and prevent the taking of possession of his successor, the progressive Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, after losing the 2022 elections.
That trial, in which he faces a possible penalty of 40 years in prison and will begin on September 2, was the main reason that led the US president, Donald Trump, to impose an additional 50 % tariff on Brazilian imports, as well as sanctions to several of the Supreme Judges.
