The trailers for Daredevil: Born Again season 2 may be teasing a secret Spider-Man villain. With Mayor Fisk kicking off a full-on war against vigilantes in New York, all sorts of surprises are bound to be in store for the upcoming MCU series.

Based on the biggest trailers that have been released for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, a new theory is growing that the upcoming series may feature an unexpected return by a character from the MCU’s Spider-Man franchise.

Trailers For Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Are Mainly Using The Same Song

The major promos for Daredevil: Born Again season 2 have leaned heavily on 2024’s “Lithonia” by Donald Glover’s Childish Gambino. It’s a solid needle drop, providing the perfect vibe as battle lines are drawn and stakes are raised between Mayor Wilson Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force and a growing resistance led by Daredevil and his allies (including the exciting return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones).

By all accounts, the music track choice isn’t surprising. After all, Childish Gambino is an incredibly popular artist, both musically and with Glover’s work on-screen. Keeping Glover’s history with Marvel in mind, Marvel Studios may be using “Lithonia” in Daredevil: Born Again’s trailers to subtly tease more to come in the actual MCU series.

Could Donald Glover Make An MCU Return As Aaron Davis’ Prowler?

For nine years, Donald Glover has had an established MCU role as Aaron Davis aka The Prowler. First debuting in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, Davis was introduced as a low-level criminal buying alien tech from The Vulture’s black market crew.

Later on in the movie, Davis also gave Tom Holland’s Spider-Man information about Adrian Toomes’ whereabouts, as he was concerned about the weapons being in the same neighborhood where his nephew lives (Miles Morales).

Although Mahershala Voiced Aaron Davis’ Prowler in 2018’s animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse featured Glover’s live-action version as a Prowler variant held captive by the Spider Society, purple armor and all.

While it wasn’t confirmed if that version of Davis was the one we saw in the MCU proper, it certainly reignited interest in Glover’s return as Prowler all the same.

Even if it was just a cameo appearance, bringing Aaron Davis back in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 would be very exciting.

Perhaps Davis could even be convinced to join Daredevil’s resistance, though an even larger hope would naturally be to set up the live-action debut of Miles Morales’ Spider-Man in the MCU. After all, Aaron Davis mentioned his nephew in Homecoming (and even called Miles on the phone in a deleted scene).

Reintroducing Aaron Davis now could lay the groundwork for Miles’ eventual debut once the animated Spider-Verse trilogy finally comes to an end. After all, Marvel Studios loves planting long-term seeds (even if they don’t always pay off), and Born Again season 2 could be an exciting place to kick things off.

All things considered, it’s certainly possible that using Gambino’s music in the Daredevil: Born Again season 2 trailers could be some clever synergy from a meta standpoint. Even if Aaron only appears briefly, it would definitely help bridge the ongoing street-level continuity between Daredevil and Spider-Man’s respective MCU projects, especially with Spider-Man: Brand New Day on the horizon as well.

Whether it’s the intentional teasing of a future appearance or simply wishful thinking from fans, the trailer’s music choice has successfully sparked some exciting conversation ahead of Daredevil: Born Again season 2. It’s going to be fascinating to see what the new MCU show has in store.
