After more than a year in rehabilitation, authorities reopened the Cuauhtémoc, Insurgentes, Sevilla and Chapultepec stations of line 1 of the Mexico City Metro.

The reopening was headed by President Claudia Sheinbaum and the head of government, Clara Brugada, who highlighted the magnitude of the project as one of the most ambitious rehabilitations worldwide, according to a note from the Excelsior website.

With those four stations already in operation, add 17 of the 20 that make up the pink line, which goes from Pantitlán to Observatory. According to the authorities, there are now 23 trains in circulation, which allows you to travel the full route in approximately 40 minutes.

Guillermo Calderón, director of the Collective Transportation System (STC), reported that with the revival of these sections, line 1 will reach an influx of up to 500,000 daily users.

According to the authorities, during the works more than 240,000 meters of rails, bearing tracks, wiring and other structural components were replaced; New electrical substations, elevators, fans and video surveillance cameras were also installed, among other technological improvements.

In addition, they indicated that the 29 new trains of Line 1 have already been assembled and that the stations in operation have international certification in rail security.

Brugada reiterated that the objective is to continue with the renewal of the rest of the 12 lines that make up the capital of the capital metro.

“This modernization became the most ambitious in the history of the subway and it was achieved. And not only that is one of the most important modernizations that the meters worldwide has had, we cannot compare any other meter in the world with such an intense and as important renewal as the one that is being carried out in this line 1,” Brugada said.
