A shooting attack on a businessman that occurred this Monday in a residential area in Guadalajara left three people dead and four injured, the Government of Jalisco confirmed.

The businessman preliminarily identified as Alberto alias ‘El Prieto’ was traveling with his minor daughter in a high-end sports car when he was attacked by armed men inside a truck.

The businessman’s bodyguards, who were traveling in other vehicles, responded to the attack, leading to a shootout that lasted several minutes, according to reports from neighbors collected by local media.

‘El Prieto’ died at the scene along with one of his personal guards. The daughter and four bodyguards were injured and taken to emergency medical units, the Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office reported.

The minor died in the hospital and the guards remain in the hospital, one of them in serious health condition, the agency reported.

The Prosecutor’s Office detailed that ‘El Prieto’ is a food market merchant and that they are working on verifying the identity of the bodyguards as well as investigating the facts.

The Secretary General of the Government of Jalisco, Salvador Zamora, indicated that they have seized two vehicles related to the attack and that the State Public Security Secretariat in coordination with the federal authorities are searching for the aggressors both by land and by air.

The attack occurred less than six months before Guadalajara is one of the venues for the 2026 Soccer World Cup and in the middle of the winter holidays in which a large part of the citizens have days off.
