The Government and businessmen of the country are already preparing a ‘CEO Dialogue’ with Canada in view of the review of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (TMEC) in 2026, said this Wednesday the president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), Francisco Cervantes.
“We are going to do the CEO Dialogue with Canada,” said the leader of the business leadership in statements to the media after participating in the morning government conference at the National Palace.
Cervantes affirmed that through dialogue they will address the review of the USMCA, in the midst of the controversies that have arisen due to the arrival of the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, on January 20 and the proposal of Canadian politicians to remove Mexico from the treaty.
“The way to negotiate is with dialogue and that is how we achieved it in 2017, you will remember that they were from NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) to the USMCA, we also had an experience like that, we went to Washington several times and we got a very USMCA reinforced,” he explained.
Regarding the proposal by Canadian politicians to exclude Mexico from the trade agreement, Cervantes assured that there are only some people who make these types of comments, remembering that in 2025 there will be elections in Canada.

“We have a very good relationship with Canadians and, furthermore, there are many Canadian companies that in no way would it be in anyone’s interest if we had a disaster. We are the number one region in the world, none of the three countries, neither the Government nor private initiatives, (it would be advisable) for us to lose this opportunity for competitiveness,” he said.
The business leader also recalled that a few days ago they formed the ‘Cuarto de Junto’ to support the Government of Mexico in the negotiations of trade agreements, and follow up on relevant issues in each sector in the commercial relationship with the United States.
“The ‘Together Room’ is permanent, a renovation was carried out and (so) that it works with greater dynamism, reviewing each chapter, reviewing each sector, each branch, so that all that ‘check list’ (list of tasks) that there is “we purge ourselves of problems, and focus on where there is an issue, some problem,” he stated.
The USMCA will be reviewed every six years after coming into force, and is now expected to be renewed for a period of 16 years, until 2042.
In October, Mexico and the United States held the ‘CEO Dialogue’ at the National Palace with authorities and businessmen from both countries, where business leaders announced an investment of more than $20 billion in Mexico by 2025.
