Toronto, (EFE) .- Canadian finance ministers, François-Philippe Champagne, and exterior, Anita Anand, will travel in the next few hours to Mexico to strengthen the commercial relationship between the two countries in the middle of the tariff war with the United States.
Champagne confirmed Monday in statements to Canadian public radio, CBC, the trip during which they will meet with senior Mexican officials.
“The meetings will be constructive in this regard: we will analyze with our Mexican market colleagues, the diversification and strengthening of our association,” said Canadian minister.
The CBC also indicated that Champagne and Anand will meet President Claudia Sheinbaum on Tuesday morning and that meetings will continue until Wednesday.

Sheinbaum and Canadian prime minister, Mark Carney, met in June during the G7 summit held in the Canadian town of Kananaskis.
During that meeting, the president and Carney agreed to “deepen bilateral collaboration to the ministerial level.”
The trip of the Canadian ministers occurs a few days after President Donald Trump announced 35 % tariffs for Canadian exports not covered by the TMEC treaty, after not reaching a new commercial agreement with Canada.
At the same time, Mexico achieved a postponement of 90 days of possible new tariffs after a call between Sheinbaum and Trump, avoiding the immediate application of the planned taxes.
