OTTAWA.- Canada will impose 25% tariffs on US products for a value of 155,000 million Canadian dollars (107,000 million dollars) from Tuesday if the Donald Trump government continues with its tariffs proposed to Canadian products, said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday.

Canada will apply 25% tariffs to US products worth 30,000 million Canadian dollars as of Tuesday, while tariffs on the 125,000 million remaining Canadian dollars will enter into force in 21 days, Trudeau said in a statement.

“Our tariffs will remain in force until the commercial action of the United States is withdrawn, and if US tariffs do not cease, we are in active and continuous conversations with provinces and territories to implement several non -tariff measures,” Trudeau added.

Ontario Prime Minister Doug Ford told NBC that US tariffs and Canada’s reprisals would be “an absolute disaster” for both countries.

“I don’t want to answer, but we’ll respond as they have never seen before,” said Ford.

He added that Michigan’s automotive plants would probably close within a week and stop nickel shipments and cross -border transmission of electricity from Ontario to the US.

“I’m going to absolutely everything,” said Ford.
