Beginning Sept. 23, 2025, eligible cardholders can transfer Capital One miles to Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways and I Prefer Hotel Rewards. That brings the total number of Capital One transfer partners to 22, the most of any major credit card rewards program.

Here’s what you should know about Capital One’s newest partners.

JAL Mileage Bank

Transfer ratio from Capital One: 2:1.5, where 1,000 Capital One miles become 750 Japan Airlines miles.

JAL Mileage Bank, the rewards program for Japan Airlines, offers members solid redemption options for flights between North America and Japan. Japan Airlines is a member of the Oneworld Alliance, so miles can also be used for partner flights on Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Qantas, in addition to flights with non-alliance partners like Air France, Korean Air and Emirates.

Using those partners is a great way to see additional cities for the same cost by taking advantage of JAL Mileage Bank’s generous stopover rules.

While a standard transfer ratio below 1:1 isn’t great, Capital One is offering a transfer bonus to Japan Airlines during the first month of the partnership, where cardholders will earn a 30% bonus for all transfers.

The Mileage Bank program has its quirks. The website can be difficult to navigate, and new members typically aren’t allowed to make award bookings for the first 60 days after opening a JAL Mileage Bank account. However, with this partnership, new JAL Mileage Bank members can transfer Capital One miles and only wait up to seven days before they can complete a redemption. For that reason, you should open a JAL Mileage Bank account sooner than later if you think you’ll use Japan Airlines as a transfer option.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club

Transfer ratio from Capital One: 1:1, where 1,000 Capital One miles become 1,000 Avios.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club lets members use miles to fly internationally in style, with the airline’s Qsuites business class consistently rated among the top in the world. Qatar Airways operates out of more than a dozen cities in the U.S. and is a member of the Oneworld Alliance, allowing you to also redeem rewards on alliance partners.

Rewards within the Qatar Airways Privilege Club operate under the Avios network, a shared rewards currency with British Airways, Iberia Airlines, Aer Lingus, Finnair, Vueling and Loganair. You can transfer Avios between all these programs at no cost. That means Capital One cardholders already have access to Qatar Airways awards through existing partner British Airways.

That ability to transfer Avios between member programs means Capital One’s addition of Qatar Airways isn’t as impactful as the addition of Japan Airlines, but you’ll have one less step now if you want to use Avios with Qatar.

Qatar Airways is also a transfer partner with American Express, Citi and Bilt.

I Prefer Hotel Rewards

Transfer ratio from Capital One: 1:2, where 1,000 Capital One miles become 2,000 I Prefer points.

I Prefer Hotel Rewards is the loyalty program for four upscale boutique hotel collections across the globe, including Preferred Hotels & Resorts. You can transfer Capital One miles to I Prefer points for award stays within those collections. Award nights begin at 15,000 points and go up depending on the quality of the property.

However, the transfer ratio from Capital One miles is poor compared to other programs, such as Citi Thank You Rewards, which transfer to I Prefer points at a 1:4 ratio (where 1,000 Citi points become 4,000 I Prefer points). The value of I Prefer points is also generally lower than you’ll find with other hotel chains, such as Hyatt or Marriott. For that reason, most people will do better transferring their Capital One miles to other partners.

Get more value through transfers

Transferring your Capital One miles to airline and hotel transfer partners offers the easiest way to get outsized value for your miles. These new partners add more options for consumers and create more flexibility for people redeeming Capital One miles.

For example, more transfer options add to the already outstanding value you can get from the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card. That card has a $395 annual fee, but comes with a big sign-up bonus, an annual $300 travel credit through Capital One Travel and 10,000 points every anniversary year (worth at least $100). You’ll also get access to the Capital One Lounge network, among a host of other travel benefits.
