Businessman Carlos Slim Helú trusted that extreme poverty will be eliminated under Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration.
He said that according to institutions like Coneval, poverty figures reach 8 million people so “hopefully this administration will be able to eliminate it.”
He assured that poverty and ignorance must be fought in Mexico because it is an “economic necessity.”
“Today more than ever we must combat poverty and ignorance and it is not only for moral, ethical or social justice reasons, but because it is an economic necessity,” he said during the awarding of the Honoris Causa Doctorate by the Anáhuac University.
He added that the best public and private investment is to combat poverty and that crises are “opportunities to make us stronger.”

“At the end of life we leave with nothing, we must leave a better country for our children, but it is more important to leave better children for our country,” he declared.
Carlos Slim also said that Mexico has a very big opportunity with nearshoring, since the United States prefers to do business with our nation over other countries.
The businessman commented that studies are also one of the most important things in a person’s life, and said that even though he is an engineer, it is very relevant to approach social studies and history.
“Beyond the career we follow, we have to observe and learn other types of things,” he considered.
Before a full auditorium, Carlos Slim thanked the university for the recognition.

“It is an honor to receive it from the university where my children studied. “My children are still friends with their schoolmates, that is something important that they cultivate, that it is cordial, that there is no jealousy or envy,” he said.
He added that “life at school is very important,” especially during the first years, since it is where people form their personalities and have their friends.
“Even family and marriage contain a high content of friendship, that friendship is always very important,” he said.
