Given the inauguration of Donald Trump as president of the United States this Monday, the Catholic Church, through the publishing house of the Archdiocese of Mexico, called for reflection on the values that should guide this new administration, highlighting the need to prioritize the common good, respect for human rights and solidarity dialogue.
In a message that takes up the principles of Pope Francis’ encyclical Fratelli Tutti, the Church stressed that “good politics” must be built from bridges and not walls, in a clear allusion to the anti-immigrant discourse that characterized Trump’s previous mandate. and his policy of returning to the White House after his victory in the elections last November in the United States
“In particular, we are concerned about the anti-immigrant discourse that has characterized some of Trump’s rhetoric. “Migration is a complex phenomenon that requires humane and compassionate solutions, and we cannot ignore the suffering of those seeking a better future far from their homelands,” the publisher stated.
The Church emphasized its commitment to continue supporting migrants, regardless of the policies that are implemented.
“Traditionally, the Catholic Church has been an institution that welcomes and supports migrants, recognizing in them the face of Christ,” he said.
In this sense, he warned about the danger of divisive rhetoric, urging the new US government to avoid language of hate and discrimination, and to work in favor of justice and equity, as pillars of democratic life.
“Let us not be fooled by those who hold the flag of Catholicism, but denigrate the vulnerable, promote the culture of death or prioritize individualism,” the editorial added.
The Archdiocese of Mexico invited the faithful to pray for Trump and world leaders, asking that their decisions be guided by wisdom, justice and love of neighbor.
“May the Holy Spirit enlighten you on your path and inspire you to build a world where peace and fraternity are possible for all,” he concluded.
