An iconic modern fantasy series is available on Netflix, and subscribers have taken advantage of this.
CBS’ Ghosts is an American remake of the original British series of the same name. Premiering in 2021, Ghosts follows a young couple who inherit a haunted mansion and hope to turn it into a B&B. However, after an accident, Sam (Rose McIver) is able to see the many Ghosts inhabiting the house, while her husband Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) cannot. Ghosts has an overall Rotten Tomatoes score of 97%.
The remake has now run for four seasons, and has released the first half of season 5; the main cast also includes Brandon Scott Jones, Danielle Pinnock, Richie Moriarty, Asher Grodman, Rebecca Wisocky, Devan Chandler Long, and Román Zaragoza. And, as of February 2, Ghosts is the no. 9 among the most-watched TV shows in the world on Netflix, per FlixPatrol.
However, Ghosts is not available on Netflix in the U.S., where audiences can stream it via Paramount+. Ghosts’ global ranking is due to its popularity in other countries across different continents, as it is in the top 10 in 23 regions today. Ghosts has achieved the highest ranking, so far, in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Germany, and Luxembourg (at no. 4 in all these regions).
Bridgerton is currently reigning at no. 1 on Netflix worldwide and in the U.S., as the series is a Netflix staple and just released a new batch of episodes. It is followed at no. 2 by the hit new release His & Hers, while other titles, including Sullivan’s Crossing, Finding Her Edge, and Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, are also trending. Stranger Things is clinging to its spot in the top 10, ranking just below Ghosts.
Ghosts’ Netflix success could continue to grow if people are now trying to catch up on the show. More episodes of Ghosts season 5 will be released soon, with the series returning this month. Additionally, Ghosts is already renewed for season 6. Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar remain the leads, alongside the expansive cast of ghost characters of CBS’s Ghosts, hailing from various eras.
Ghosts has been remade several times for different nations’ audiences, a trend spurred on by the American Ghosts’ success. Joe Port and Joe Wiseman’s take on Ghosts, however, clearly has international appeal and is widely available on Netflix. We will see, but Ghosts’ legacy looks as though it will continue to grow as its influence expands across network television, streaming, and reinterpretation.
The next episode of Ghosts will premiere on CBS on February 26, 2026.
