The manifestations for the Gentrification of July 4 in Mexico City had an economic cost for the formal trade of 11.9 million pesos, the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Mexico City (Canaco CDMX) reported yesterday.
Of this amount, 8.7 MDP was related to unrealized sales and the rest for material damage, he detailed in a statement.
Vicente Gutiérrez Camposeco, president of the CDMX Canaco, reiterated his respect for the constitutional right to free demonstration and legitimate expression of citizenship.
However, he said that “shops, interruptions in mobility and the alteration of the daily order caused during mobilizations directly affect business and put jobs, local economy and the image of our city as a tourist destination at risk.”
He said that it is essential that by exercising their right to demonstration, protesters consider the rights of all economic actors.
By calling the authorities to design support schemes to all businesses that have suffered losses, the business leader said that in the organization there is a commitment to promote an environment of respect, peace and sustainable development.
He warned that acts of violence during the mobilizations, made by violent groups outside the convening groups, would seem to have the intention of making the legitimate demands invisible.
The losses calculated by last Friday’s protests are add to a broader scenario of effects on protests in the capital during the first semester of 2025.

According to the CDMX Canaco, the protests in that period caused a loss of 350 million pesos in unrealized sales, in addition to material damage by 20.8 MDP.
Among these mobilizations he pointed out those of the Ayotzinapa groups, Feminist, those of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE).
In February, Ayotzinapa’s demonstrations caused sales not specified by 14 MDP and damage to 8 MDP; In March, feminist groups generated losses for 18 MDP and damage to 7.5 MDP; In May, the 16 marches of the CNTE added 205 million pesos in unrealized sales and 2.1 million pesos in material damage, and in June, four mobilizations meant 104 million pesos in sales not made.
