The Mexican capital is preparing for the Day of the Dead celebrations with an estimated participation of seven million people and economic income of more than 2,000 million pesos, according to local authorities this Monday.

“We estimate 7 million people, and we are very low, in citizen participation these days,” said Head of Government of the Mexican capital, Clara Brugada, at a press conference.

The Secretary of Tourism of the capital, Alejandra Frausto, added that economic income “of more than 2,000 million pesos is expected in the city for all those people who are dedicated to receiving and treating well the tourism that comes from other parts of the country and from other parts of the world.”

Frausto highlighted that for this weekend there is a record of hotel occupancy of more than 80%, which means 10% more than the previous year.

In addition, Brugada pointed out that the city is getting ready for the traditional ‘Catrinas Parade’ this Sunday the 27th, at 6:30 p.m., from the Angel of Independence to the capital’s Zócalo, in the center of the city.

Likewise, on Wednesday the 30th, the decorative lighting in buildings and the inauguration of the ‘Monumental Offering’ will be turned on in the Zócalo; and on November 2 the ‘Great Day of the Dead Parade’ will take place, at 2:00 p.m.

He also invited citizens to the exhibition on Paseo de la Reforma Avenue of more than 140 producers of traditional marigold flowers, representing 420 productive units and approximately 5,000 families dedicated to cultivation.

Considered since 2003 by UNESCO as oral and intangible heritage of humanity, the celebration of the Day of the Dead, which commemorates November 1 and 2, is one of the most significant Mexican traditions, where the living prepare to receive their dead. and live with them.
