The head of government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, announced that a guideline will be broadcast to limit music with war messages in government events and public spaces, in tune with the initiative of President Claudia Sheinbaum to boost “runs without violence.”
“The city will generate a circular for all the events that are carried out from the government, the government’s classrooms, in cultural infrastructure with this perspective,” Brugada said.
He explained that this perspective seeks to avoid exposing the population, particularly to youth, to the messages that contain some musical genres, such as narcocorridos, subgenre of the Mexican regional, which promotes violence in their letters and praises criminals or generators of violence.
“We cannot have events where, as on some sides, fortunately not here, but they have the generators of violence in screens and generating in our youth and in the population an induced culture so that today young people want to be the same as some generators of violence,” he said.

However, Brugada clarified that it is not a prohibition, but about generating a dialogue so as not to fall into “cultural actions that do not help for anything to build peace.”
“We add, of course, to the fact that the musical genre is not fought, but it is the message that we have to take care of,” Brugada remarked.
On Monday, the governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, informed that in the region the public shows will be banned where crime and violence are made and warned that next Wednesday he will publish a document to make him official.
Both ads occur after Friday the regional singer Luis R. Conriquez and his team were attacked by those attending his show at the Texcoco 2025 Fair, municipality of the State of Mexico, after the interpreter refused to sing runs, which generated the anger of his followers.
In response, Conriquez through a statement regretted what happened, but claimed to act, as an artist, in “attachment to the new rules that the Government requests regarding the interpretation of corridos.”
The war runs are a subgenre of the Mexican regional that is characterized by addressing issues such as drug trafficking, money, weapons, heartbreak and love, where some consider apology for violence.

Last week, President Claudia Sheinbaum presented the musical initiative ‘Mexico sings and loves’, a contest that will include young people from the country as well as those who live in the United States, and who seeks to promote music without violence, and fight against addictions in the midst of an insecurity wave linked to the narco that some areas of Mexico live.
