The director of the Cervantes Institute, Luis García Montero, warned Wednesday that, when a Hispanic migrant is mistreated in the United States, “we are mistreating us” to all, and therefore, although “there are those who want to marginalize Spain”, you cannot break the community that speaks in Spanish.

In this way, the top leader of the Spanish public institution dedicated to the promotion of Spanish has been pronounced, during the closure of the annual meeting of managers of the center that has been held for three days at the University of La Laguna (Spain) and whose inauguration the Queen Letizia attended.

Luis García Montero pointed out in his final speech that the world lives a “very difficult” situation and among those difficulties is that of Spanish in the United States, about what he has commented that for many strategies that are to maintain the interests of Spain, they can never assume a breakdown of interests with Latin American countries.

“Because there are those who want to marginalize Spain talking about Latin America, but Spain cannot fall into the error of defending itself because its future depends on its brotherhood with the European Union,” said the Spanish poet also.

And in this work the Cervantes Institute seeks the best ways, the collaboration routes to defend Spanish and Spanish culture, a task in which there is “reasons for pride, but without self -complacency or lose surveillance capacity to improve”.

García Montero, who has alluded to the need to forget “misunderstandings, envy, threats and sabotage,” said the Cervantes Institute in pride is today an international reference in language teaching.

He added that “a language is much more than a vocabulary” and that is why García Montero has congratulated the more than 7,800 activities carried out by the Institute with more than 5,000 participants, 50.2 percent of them women.

He has also celebrated the implementation of the Global Spanish Observatory and the agreement with the Autonomous University of Mexico in this area since, he has continued, “if we work for the image of Spain, for cultural diplomacy, complicity with the directors of the Institute is essential.”

It has also congratulated that more than 30 percent of the activities have been developed in collaboration with Latin American institutions and has asked to make speaking creators visible in Spanish abroad.
