In the first year of Claudia Sheinbaum’s government, the CFE added 1,741 megawatts (MW) to supply energy to 10 million homes, highlighted the head of the company, Emilia Esther Calleja.

He maintained that national electricity coverage is already 99.73% and in towns with less than 2,500 inhabitants, it reached 92.13%.

The official explained that this energy was the result of the entry into operation of the Salamanca I Combined Cycle Power Plants (CCC) in Guanajuato; Villa de Reyes, in San Luis Potosí and Mérida IV in open cycle in Yucatán, and the modernization of the Zimapán, Minas and La Villita hydroelectric plants.

During her appearance in the Chamber of Deputies, the director of CFE declared that during the last summer period, considered to be high demand, operating reserve margins above 14% were achieved.

He added, according to a statement, that in the Plan for Strengthening and Expansion of the National Electrical System 2025-2030, the addition of 22,000 MW was established through 51 public projects, 40 of which are new plants, to satisfy the country’s demand in the next five years and will go from 54,823 MW to almost 77,000 MW in 2030.

Meanwhile, clean energies could reach 38% of the national generation matrix, and together with private initiative it is estimated 29,000 MW.

in order to guarantee the reliability of the electricity supply in the face of a growing participation
photovoltaic and wind power,” said Emilia Calleja.

He noted that the plan plans to install around 2,216 MW of electricity storage and that to this effort is added the construction of two solar thermal plants with thermal storage in Baja California Sur, with an investment of 800 million dollars.

He explained that 1,380 telecommunications towers were installed to strengthen mobile telephone and wireless broadband coverage to reach a total of 4,907 active towers in operation, with an investment of 3,564 million pesos.

In addition, 7,602.8 kilometers of dark optical fiber were deployed in the National Aggregation and Access Network, for a total of 21,449.21 km, and 1,338 new free internet access points were enabled in public spaces, reaching 102,329.
