The Government of Mexico is preparing an intersecretary plan for the possible mass deportation of Mexican migrants from the United States, in the event that Donald Trump’s threats of deportations come true, Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente indicated this Tuesday.

The official participated in a meeting headed by President Claudia Sheinbaum at the National Palace, which was attended by the heads of the Secretariats of National Defense (Defense), Ricardo Trevilla; from Marina, Raymundo Morales; of Welfare, Ariadna Montiel, as well as of Territorial and Urban Agrarian Development, Edna Vega.

In addition to the commissioner of the National Migration Institute (INM), Francisco Garduño, and who will replace him in office Salomón Céspedes, current governor of Puebla and who will leave his post on December 5.

When asked if the plan was only to serve deported Mexican migrants, or those of other nationalities, the chancellor responded: “The responsibility and obligation of the Mexican State is with Mexicans, obviously. So, they are the priority and those who, in due course, will be received as they deserve.”

This Tuesday, Sheinbaum assured that his Government is already preparing to receive thousands of Mexicans living in the United States in case Trump carries out his intention to carry out mass deportations.

“Even in these cases, if there were a (massive) deportation, we are also preparing to welcome to Mexico all Mexicans who for some reason are deported from the United States. It is our obligation,” said the president during her morning press conference.

Questioned about her position regarding the threats of the future US president, who will take office on January 20 and begin a mass deportation of undocumented immigrants, Sheinbaum indicated that she will talk with Trump.

He highlighted that there is a collaboration and a relationship with the United States that goes beyond the 3,000 kilometers of border, but he stressed the importance of respecting Mexico’s sovereignty, as happened during the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

On November 26, Tom Homan, considered the ‘border czar’ of the next US president, assured that mass deportations are already planned to begin on January 20.

Human rights organizations and activists in the US have rejected Trump’s mass deportation plans, warning of humanitarian repercussions and a negative impact on the North American country’s economy.

An action of this magnitude could cause a drop in annual GDP of between 4.2% and 6.8%, which is equivalent to losses of between 1.1 and 1.7 trillion dollars annually, according to a report by the American Immigration Coalition.
