Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has refused to confirm that Sergio “Checo” Perez will finish the formula one season after the driver suffered another miserable afternoon at his home race on Sunday.
Pérez started the race in eighteenth place and finished last on the track after receiving a false start penalty and then being involved in several crashes with other drivers that left his car destroyed and holed.
At the same time, Red Bull lost second place in the constructors’ championship to Ferrari, despite the Dutchman Max Verstappen leading the drivers’ championship.
When asked directly if Perez, whose performance has fallen since May, was going to finish the season with Red Bull, Horner offered no words of consolation for the driver who is under contract until 2025.

“You know, there comes a time when you have to make difficult decisions. “Now we are third in the constructors’ championship, our determination is to try to get back to a winning position, but it will be a difficult task in the next four races,” Horner told reporters.
Horner assured that Pérez will be at the Brazilian Grand Prix next weekend, but there was much speculation at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez that a change could be made for the final three races.
“He (Pérez) knows that Formula One is a results-based business and, inevitably, when you are not meeting objectives, the attention focuses on you. “As a team we need both cars to score points and that is the nature of Formula One,” he added.
“We are working with him as hard as we can to try to support him, I think we have done everything we can to support “Checo” and we will continue to do so in Brazil next weekend. But there comes a time when no more can be done,” said Horner.
