The Chinese Ministry of Commerce began on Thursday an anti -dumping investigation into the pecans imported from the United States and Mexico, which indicates an increase in global commercial tensions and greater friction with both countries in North America.

Beijing’s measure occurs in the context in which Mexico proposed to increase tariffs on multi -sectors products – including textile, steel and automotive – from China and other countries, and while China and the US seek to advance negotiations to relieve their commercial dispute.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the investigation is expected to conclude on September 25, 2026, although six more months could be extended in special circumstances.

According to the agency, there are preliminary evidence that indicates that Mexican and American pecans were exported and sold in China at lower prices than their normal value, causing significant damage to the Chinese national industry.

China investigates the tariffs of Mexico

Separately, China also initiated an investigation into tariffs and other restrictive trade measures imposed by Mexico against Chinese products, arguing that these actions damage the interests of its commercial partners and reduce confidence to invest in that country.

“China considers that, given the abuse of tariffs by the United States, all countries must jointly oppose all forms of unilateralism and protectionism, and should never sacrifice the interests of third parties for pressures of others,” said a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce in a statement.

The Ministry of Economy of Mexico did not immediately respond to a request for comments.

Analysts point out that these measures by Beijing were expected after the announcement of the new tariffs by Mexico, and the Chinese ministry insinuated that it sees this decision as a result of the pressure exerted by the United States.

“As always, agricultural products turn out to be an easy target,” said Even Rogers Pay, a Chinese Trivium analyst, “says Beijing, specialized in agriculture.

“By grouping the pecans of the United States and Mexico in the same investigation, the Ministry of Commerce creates the possibility that the Mexican government reaches an agreement and obtains a great advantage for its nut producers in the Chinese market, compared to US cultivators,” he explained.

Commercial relations between China and the United States are becoming increasingly unpredictable, especially after Beijing included on Thursday six US companies in their export control lists and non -reliable entities, just when the two largest economies in the world seek to negotiate a durable trade agreement.
