Members of the Venezuelan Government would have helped monitor the location of the president, Nicolas Maduro, according to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) cited by the New York Times.

The CIA, sources indicated, produced the intelligence information that led to Maduro’s arrest by monitoring his movements and pattern of life, the New York Times reported.

Agents in Venezuela, working clandestinely since August 2025, collected key data that allowed the operation to be precisely planned.

It was not made clear how the Venezuelan source who facilitated Maduro’s location was recruited.

Operation to capture Maduro took months of meticulous planning

However, former officials noted that the $50 million reward offered by the United States for information leading to his capture may have helped obtain the necessary cooperation.

Although the CIA played a central role in obtaining intelligence and planning the mission, the operation was executed by US Army special operations forces under law enforcement authority, and not as a direct agency mission.

Officials consulted by US media described the operation as the product of “months of meticulous planning” and highlighted that Maduro was “intervened” from the beginning of the operation.
