The National Guard troops deployed in Los Angeles to contain the protests after migratory raids are authorized to temporarily stop civilians, said General General Scott Sherman, commander in charge of the operation.

“Strictly for the protection of federal staff and the protection of the federal building, they are allowed to stop temporarily and wait for the forces of the order to come and arrest them,” he said in a press conference with national media.

Sherman, who coordinates the deployment of 4,000 soldiers of the National Guard and 700 Marines in Los Angeles, stressed that the troops cannot make any arrest and said that about 500 have been trained to accompany the agents of the Immigration and Customs Control Service (ICE) in migratory operations.

On Tuesday, ICE published photos in his X Soldiers account of the guard providing security to the agents during the operations.

Sherman also explained that Marines are currently receiving specialized training at the Naval Arms Station of Seal Beach, focused on crowd management techniques, outside their traditional functions.

He also warned that the protests that have spread to other countries could intensify demonstrations in Los Angeles in the next few days, although this Wednesday a calmer atmosphere was perceived in the streets.

As reported by the CNN, it is not yet clear when the Marines will be on the streets to help with the protests.

The Marines “have not completed their training (on the permanent rules for the use of force) and on non -lethal weapons, and I do not have an estimate of when they will be used by the task force 51,” said the spokesman for the north command of the United States to the same chain.

The Trump government ordered the deployment of thousands of soldiers of the National Guard, and hundreds of troops from the Marines’ body without the approval of the governor, in response to the growing protests over immigration raids.

This deployment will cost $ 134 million, which will cover transport, food, accommodation and other expenses up to a maximum of 60 days.
